Homework 29 - Merchants of Cool

Even though people in this world are trying to hard to achieve this self understanding of "cool", it all doesn't really matter. If one ask the question of "So what?" it shows how people have little understanding of what is around them, the ideals of people leeching off another is common through out history. different people try to make others buy into their own ideas and to sell the people today a dying product. in this world there is mass manipulation but all they doesn't matter since even if we as people try and change it there will always be the merchandizing of "cool" through out the world. In the merchants of cool it showed how companies will always grab all these sub cultures and us them for their own gain to increase popularity and growth. by taking what is famous and to make people think they have the voice, is not wrong but the natural state of society today.

According to the merchants of cool the best manipulation technique is giving the audience a voice and allowing them to say what goes on a show, like on MTV there are no real shows just a bunch of advertisement that draw the viewer in into watching and buying the products they are sponsoring. it is also hard to manipulate the viewers with the same thing for a long time, since the different techniques wear out and the viewers or the teens are able to block out that type of advertising. But in many ways these ways these things still influence people and they might still work to some extent.

Advertising should never be banned since there are many types of advertising and in this world is it is banned to some ages old or younger advertising's might affect those ages since there is always advertising around you and no one can escape from it. In the merchants of cool it talked about how a normal walk today is like strolling through a mall, teens process over 3000 advertising per day they can never escape it. it is all around you and even with the banning those in that age rang will still experience and be influent by these merchants.

It is no evil for the corporations to manipulate the minds of the young since people grow up and will soon manipulate people younger than them like an endless cycle that the person manipulated will be the manipulator. the people studying the "coolness" of today were kids once and were affected by companies to products like what they are doing to humans today.

All people like Mos has the choice to who sponsors them in the revolutions since as they get more popular maybe not as fast as with the corporations, they will be a corporations themselves and manipulating others to their own desire to buy their music, there is no escape no matter what approach one takes in this revolution and eventually the higher corporations will find someone as good since they are paying over 10000 dollars to see what is cool today.

There is no way to tell is the form of advertising sexuality is a crime and people shouldn't do it, but the form of changing people to be the perfect puppet would be a crime like what disney is doing to their new stars training them and shaping them to the images parents and kids would like, they would make models and use them to their own personal gain, by messing with natural talent and making humans test subjects for the perfect advertising puppet.

(REVISED)HomeWork 25: story comments and analysis

Henry
i though when you wrote the story it was very common and nothing special. this might show some small aspects of cool in your mind, but this is a very rough explanations. I think this is a good story but you tried too hard to show coolness in today's society. Even though it filled your though of someone who is kind of cool, there are piece you left out that we would all love to hear.

Maggie
i though your story was a typical answer, not amazing like the girl but is full of description and life. i liked how you portrayed the class of a regular loners as a cool kid, but i stop to wonder isn't think like yourself in some ways, so are you saying that your cool too.

Charles

I though it was nice how you took a new approach to this coolness and show how you think about yourself. Since you act about the same way, people tend to include their personalities into their stories or writing. you are very honest and straight forward about your opinion of what is cool, i just wonder now, do you rethink what is you cool still cool or is it different nows?

HomeWork 27: Surveys

When i went to talk to my mom, the first thing she does is cool at me and ask me "what do you mean cool is suck a big topic." then she stated that her children are cool, just because they are, she didn't name and names of society like celebrities that she though were cool. I was like that this topic didn't really appeal to her, no matter what question you ask.
√∆
While walking in the streets my teacher Mr. snyder reminds us to avoid people who are using to their digital representational devices. As i am walking toward east 23rd street i stop and interview a middle age peach skin guy wearing a brown coat. states that "Popularity" is one thing t hat shows "coolness.". He relates popularity with out you dress, and how he is too old to be cool even though he is stating the way to be cool.

As the interview time continues on i meet a 65 year old lady whom says she is just an ordinary person, and unlike the brown coat peach man she thinks she is a cool person and that "i am the coolest person i know!" "kids hang with me"

As time goes on and avoiding people who has sunglasses on, cellphones or earphones out, or are avoiding your gaze, and getting screamed at by an old disabled man who has social issues i finally find a lady who would walk with me and answer some questions.

The Purple jacket female actually told me a name of the coolest person she knew. it was "Robin Stuats" the purple jacket female rambled on about how robin had the most perfect hair, or the greatest clothes, and was smart and a cheerleader. i asked her about what she though out kids today and if they were cool in her eyes, and she thought "the things i like about kids today, is that they are funny, maybe it is because they have you-tube or television!" i even asked her if should though coolness progressed, and she though that you can be smart now and cool, being smart isn't looked down by others. but i though she said robin was smart and how was robin cool and smart if it wasn't considered cool back then. i guess you had to look good and fit into good characters in society to be smart and cool. she thinks of herself as cool now since she says "now i am, i was too focused on what other though in the past."

as i walked by even though i got three people i noticed how everyone uses the same excuses of how they are late for work or school, or they automatically say no like they were ready for you before i asked my question. but i had the feeling of getting one more person since two of three interviews were short that's when i met friendly mustache man. once i asked him about coolness she didn't really understand but when i explained to him a little of the class and what we were learning the first thing in his past wasn't a childhood classmate from his teens but instead was the Beatles, he like their music and though that they were cool. again another person looking down on themselves and thinking he is not cool, but do think that kids today are "pretty" and he looked back to smartness and how he though kids today are smarter than kids when he was younger. this concludes my interview on the street with random people.

HW 24 - Short Story

In a country which lost its individuality, there is a town which lost its name. Some where in this town there is a small forest of my community.

Walking down the dirt en-crusted roads all the trees and animals are the same, yet show some individuality. Each walk like mindless slaves, like me. Those with their half cut strings tied to their legs who walk into the world with half heart-ed dreams. All the birds soar in the air as they sing their lovely songs. Looking out into the world and seeing everything is were it is suppose to be, the order of this world and this forest, to live in a community. The birds always taunt us the land dwellers, how we are always grovelling in the dirt, never to touch the sky. The nice sea en-crested sky above, is where i want to be. To feel free from the birds whom we look up at but to also be one of them, the few animals who can  look different, whom look better than the rest.

Being a lowly Tapia the birds stare at me with no feeling at all, they know they are different and we all look at them with envy, but they show no interest to look better for us, but for each other and only for themselves.

Tim, a very special bird always soars the highest, staring down at all the bears and rabbits walking or hoping, he would always just stay quiet thinking what he is always thinking. All the birds are always thinking never saying anything but to them selves. All the squirrels try and soar like them but never succeed. But what can i do since we are all different but the same. They are all special in my eyes and they will never change.

Whenever one lands on a branch, a rat would always come and ask, how are you? But the birds would always just fly away past the trees and into the sunset.

HW 23 - 1st Constructivist Exploration of Cool

Why do people define cool in many different ways?
Why is "Cool" so annoying?
Why are cool "people" the puppeteers of other people but the puppets of other

In our lives many people will define things they like and don't like with different words. "Cool" is one word that talks about how people like and dislike things and other objects. Each person has different views but still the same base line. What one thinks is cool can be uncool to other people, and the way some people think cool is between warm and cold. Each person still thinks the same way, since there are some basic fundamentals that each person has, like building blocks, the base of life. Many people think of cool as the ability to gain attention from others with out showing oneself off.

I personally think that the word "cool" has been overused and misinterpreted, since we give different words different meanings this allows people to think of cool in different ways. Each person is the puppet of the higher class and gain their knowledge from what others do and think around them. "Cool" people think they are leaders but all i see are followers. Each person has their own views of the world but their views never spread past their own minds.

Having everyone trying to be cool in their own minds messes up with their own minds, since each person will try and find out what everyone thinks of each others and to make an unknown competition of life to be the top and to be the best.

"Cool" people lead others to show whats cool and how we should live but the are also being controlled by others. Since if someone doesn't like something on the other person, the other person would change so they are accepted by everyone (or everyone in their world).

"Cool" is such a big word and has too many meanings and has been corrupted so far that it is almost impossible to understand completely. There is so much to talk about in this unit but so little at the same time. There is nothing to hold since like the digital unit we will just jump from point to point and never making up our minds of what "Cool" real is but instead what other people want us to think what "Cool" is.

Art Project (HomeWork 21)

The images used in this video are copyrighted to Nexon and the MMORPG Maplestory.
I also do not claim ownership of any audio content used.

NOTE: i am sorry that this video is not my best. have a nice day :D

Together with your art please append a text that addresses the following questions:
1. Is your art a hammer or a mirror? Why?
I think my art is sort of like both since it mirrors today's society and what is seen through normal people's eyes but it also captures some of the rough parts of society that some people don't see or want to believe. By portraying how many different people view their lives and how it is good or bad but also nailing in some messages of the stuff being over looked. There are many ways to look at my art, with it's badly drawn lines of society and peoples wishes to live in this world where everything can be created and colored. All the different second lives that are made each day and all the abuse of this technology. Everything is digital and everything is a play, all things are created and are considered natural since they are all the same.

2. Does your art make you fink and theel? What are some of your own reactions to your art?
My Art doesn't make me fink or theel since i have no reactions to it. Since i made it there is nothing new for me to look at.

3. What was the most interesting aspect of your making of the art?
I think the most interesting aspect of making this art is how i got the freedom to show what i want to show to the world, even though it is not perfect and how i wanted it exactly but i still got to show some aspects of this world.

Digital Unit Final Paper (HomeWork 22)

Humans Will Never Stop Oppressing Others Will They:
By Vincent Choi
Section A2
Final Draft1
Social Study Class

Have you parent or you the reader ever told your kids: “Stop watching T.V.”, “Television make you dumber since it does not teach you anything.”, “There are kids in third world countries that don’t have the life of luxury that you have today.” Wells Parents are just over exaggerating about these points since in this world humans never want to be put in a spot light of blame so they push something else in front of them. In this world digital representation devises are the escape goats of life. Through out time creations of humans has been mistreated and thrown aside to rot where they aren’t wanted. Digital devices are no different than the rest of crap humans have piled into this world. Digital Representation devices are not the cause of suffering in this world but the unskillful way human use these devices.

Through out time humans have created forms of digital devices that date back to our own imagination. As a human is born the imagination creates the same sensation that today's digital devices are used. The imagination gives off our internal emotions affected by the world around us. "Imagination, also called the faculty of imagining, is the ability of forming mental images, sensations and concepts, in a moment when they are not perceived through sight, hearing or other senses. Imagination helps provide meaning to experience and understanding to knowledge;
"(Wikipedia) As time continued humans developed different types of devices to share with others and to give them the same sensation o emotions. Each person continues to manipulate these emotions they create to try and control the same emotions that other humans have and make categories of good and bad emotions. They document these different types of emotions in stories and books which lead to digital devices of today. The humans choose to use these devices to cause humans suffering and to learn how to control others to their own will "Language expresses thought, preserves thought, and also suggests or creates thought. It has been considered obvious that, so long as language is unwritten, it can accomplish these ends only in a very imperfect measure. Hence it may well be supposed that, at a very early stage of man's history, attempts were made to present in some way to the eye the thought which spoken language conveyed to the ear, and thus give it visible form and permanence"(Wikipedia). It is an endless chain of controlling others to their own gains. Parents use it to keep their children in line and to give them restriction and to feed them different things of good or bad.

Even the creation of other humans as puppets has turned us ourselves into these digital devices. Digital devices are made to make human life easier and like slave they are there to make their owner’s life easier. As a human is born they are either controlled to make life easier for others or control and be controlled. Creations being abused and thrown aside through out the course of time, endless bodies made of all materials (metal, wood, foam, etc…). Each I-pod, Cell phones, Book is like a human’s life since they all has the same value to others. Think about your phone and it freezes on you and doesn’t work like humans revolt in time since it was overused and mistreated. The cell phone has to get fixed like humans are fixed by other humans to twist their emotions and make them do what they want. If it can’t be fixed the cell phone is thrown aside, like how we kill humans in this world. New forms of Cell phones come out more generations like humans to be better and faster. Humans control others like devices and create suffering for their need for more. Those who can understand emotions can control others and create glory for themselves and suffering for others.

All these devices are here to show something to the world. Each human has limits and so does these digital devices. These limits make a box around humans and other things to make them think that is all they can do. In the book “Everything Bad is Good for You” By Steven Johnson, Shows how even though games and television improves your brains limit the normal human doesn’t know that so they can’t use it to help their lives. The Game or television or book is limiting the humans to certain things like maximum strength or, if the person can jump off the cliff or not. Every thing has a limit and by not exploring the dangerous waters one will not end the suffering other has placed upon them. These limits are here to show humans you can’t get past this point or there will be consequences and you will fail. Each human hunter these games, televisions is not under out control and what the creators say goes. This show how all humans are slaves to the creators and these digital devices are being used to limit us.

We as humans have created death to all things. By giving a soul to these digital things we have also enjoy killing them. Computer viruses are a good example of killing digital things. By sending these viruses to other people it is like sending the H1N1 virus to other humans. Unlike the H1N1 which can evolve on its own computer viruses is another creation of humans "People write computer viruses. A person has to write the code, test it to make sure it spreads properly and then release it
"(How Stuff Works). They can’t evolve but can still do serious damage. These little viruses are given commands to attack and spread. To kill these things that we as humans hold dear. By the spread of computer viruses humans has created firewalls and anti virus programs which kill the viruses that can’t spread anymore or contain them. These are still created by humans and are used to affect others and die like humans to be killed by others. Humans create suffering to others and this creates more suffering to fight it.

This connect to real life since as time goes on these dead bodies of “humans” of all shapes and sizes pile up and are there to rot. Land fills are the graves of these creations. We as humans has made these things our trophies like human heads and bodies to sit there till it is not useful anymore "an award for success in war or hunting
"(Definitions).People cherish their digital devices like awards and prizes to show off, if digital items prices are now equal to our lives than its like holding your child up as just a prize and nothing more Through this endless flow of time humans will always cause suffering and will always be the source of it.

This is significant since this world is a mess. We treat ourselves as the superior breed even though our live cost as much as a digital device we use today. We don’t see this but our lives has been so corrupted by other humans and not devices that our essence is created by other and is artificial. Since there is no turning point to this tragedy all there can be is awareness and knowledge of the horror of this world. To see the true nature of humans and what we have become.

People can view that Digital items are actually bad for you and they are causing the suffering in this world by bringing the separation between social classes through a grand canyon, since third world countries can't afford these things and only high profiting countries with partially wealthy citizens can afford to use them.

Another way people can argues is that in Wall-E the humans loose themselves to digital devices and are taught by these devices of what is good and bad. Kids learn of what is your friend and everything for the humans are at the touch of a button. The humans forgot their life necessity like chewing food, working and even walking. Each human is suffering because of these devices but they don't know it since they are so hypnotized by these devices.

Humans created all this suffering for digital devices by tampering with them and manipulating them to their will. Since Humans are destroying imagination of dreams in this world to feel like an individual and feel true emotions only define by themselves. When one is trying to understand oneself and find out that what one see and hear, which is all in your head and nothing in this world is necessarily real. To create one’s own path not to enlightenment but a better future where things make sense and one’s path can evolve from using other human sorrow for ones happiness. The things we throw in front of use like a wall to protect what we really don’t want to see. What we really want to hide from. The nasty truth which everyone should learn and understand and not judge so harshly. The suffering we as humans use to make our lives better which doesn’t come from these devices but each other.

Digital Unit Final Paper (homework:18)

Have you parent or you the reader ever told your kids: “Stop watching T.V.”, “Television make you dumber since it does not teach you anything.”, “There are kids in third world countries that don’t have the life of luxury that you have today.” Wells Parents are just over exaggerating about these points since in this world humans never want to be put in a spot light of blame so they push something else in front of them.

HomeWork 16: Big Paper Outline

Thesis:
Digital Representation devices are not the cause of human suffering but the unskillful way human use these device.

Argument1:
Through out time humans has created forms of digital devices that date back to our own imagination. As a humans is born the imagination creates the same sensation that today's digital devices are used. The imagination gives off our internal emotions affected by the world around us. As time continued humans developed different types of devices to share with others and to give them the same sensation o emotions. Each person continues to manipulate these emotions they create to try and control the same emotions that other humans have and make categories of good and bad emotions. They document these different types of emotions in stories and books which leads to digital devices of today. The humans choose to use these devices to cause humans suffering and to learn how to control others to their own will. It is an endless chain of controlling others to their own gains. Parents use it to keep their children in line and to give them restriction and to feed them different things of good or bad.
Time-line→ development of these devices after dinosaurs.
leads one after another connecting to how things relates and think similarly.

Argument2:
Parents are a big part of this world and they "feed" the children of whats right and wrong. How children should think about things and to make this world to their own advantage by following others to the path of digital. Each adult would want lead their child but not fall far from the tree of corporation. Each humans are said to be similar and they will follow the next big thing from books to computers to cellphones to the future. Each human care for gain and as they follow each other and not thinking of what they are doing. They will all just follow and find themselves unable to find a reason why.
Feed→ Adults falling into the abyss with the children and only thinking of themselves.
The feed adult don't do anything about the rapidly changing world. They jut follow what new and progress with humans like lave talking with no privacy and

Argument3:
Bad is good→ The different types of technology serves as limits that the humans has created for other humans

Argument4...:
Etc→ unknown and need to think of more arguments

HomeWork 15: Comment 10-14

Carrie:
Your informal research was very informant and allows me to think more about how outside viewers on this topic think. You show many good points in your thoughts and some good points in your summary's that normal people won't see. you said that there was a "show" to catch these "old creeps". This means that the "old creeps" can watch the show and improve on how they hide themselves. There is a good and a bad to everything and nothing is totally pure. i love how you keep talking about how these men or women spend a lot of time to seduce these "kids" and to make twist the minds of children to their will. all these different things these "old creeps" used to lure "kids". It shows how the internet is like a "second identity" for the "old creeps". maybe if you think about it they want to want the lives they never had. who knows since no one has gotten their opinion.

In your experiment it is really funny how you are showing the common reason for commercials, its for people to take a break from watching and to come back to real world and do some things. This is a really good experiment that people should try and see what they think, but i wish the experiment was longer than you would see yourself change your habits over time as you multitask.

When you look at feed it is funny how you view it as "America" and not the whole world, since now that i realize it that the world itself is corrupted and that nothing can stand in its way from falling into a shallow grave like feed. You have a lot of really strong points on what you think about the book and as you said "Feed expresses, what you're told may not always be the truth. Corrupted acts are constant patterns that come up in those with power whether it be the government or top notched corporations. M.T. Anderson is trying to tell us is to be more aware of our surroundings. Don't settle for the government to do all the work for you, be a part of the power and take matters into your own hands." that is shown clearly with he world today, how the people rely on Obama to get things done but he is just one man and one man can't do a lot with over 300million mind controlled slaves puppet ed by this digital world.

When you think about it Feed is a piece of art but, on the other hand your line of "I think Art is both a mirror and a hammer. It reflects a situation using a different angle of perspective to get a point across. Good art is something that will jolt its audience out of their current mind frames and force them to think and perceive the world in a different direction." is proving Feed wrong since it doesn't show other ways and reflect on this one solid point of view, and he is offering no solution by making himself the bad guy. it can't be a mirror or a hammer since the opposite side is never found and the nail to strike on is not there.

I really like reading all your post and think about them for what to say, i would like to read more of your work. ^^

Jenise:

When reading your informal research i see you spent some time trying to analysis about your passion and not the typical stuff. You love your music a lot and you pretty much broke down it with this research and figured out whats in a big part of your life, and how others put it together.

I think that by doing your experiment you really detached yourself from the world like you said, you got to relax and detach yourself from human drama. How you really think of this different experience of your life and look back to the other times you felt this way. But i wonder how else would you relax since there is so much digital stuff around you that we as humans just can't keep away.

I agree with you that in the book it shows how he thinks we forgot how to live as humans and that it would be confusing with out more views than one, but is it true that people would want a feed, since this world is twisted as it is with all these mixed emotions of this world.

I hope to read or hear more about your thoughts since they would be a good collection to compare to of this digital world.

HomeWork14: Bad Good Big

After reading the material please:
1. Write a single 1-2 paragraph summary of the main argument(s) of the text(s) you've read.
2. Write a paragraph or three about your mix of reactions to the arguments and evidence in the book. What perspectives do you think are useful - what might be faulty?
3. Add a paragraph or two that addresses the ways the argument of this author contradicts Feed. In what ways didn't he? In what ways were the two authors talking about two very different aspects of digitization?
->
Everything Bad is Good for You: By Steven Johnson
->
Steven Johnson explains about how in this world if people do what they enjoy they develop their brains further and gain knowledge and experience. This is shown through the new generation of fresh minds. These minds take two different paths, one is to enjoy the past value of knowledge (books) or through the future (like games [digital stuff etc...]). People who enjoy reading gain more knowledge than people who don't lean toward reading as much. He explains how books give us knowledge since it shows a plot or a path which is always followed. The reader will be guided by the narrator or author through a disembodiment and into the dimension of the hypnotic words. This is the same for digital items like video games, people are taken through a "fix" scenario designed by the creator and they cannot get out of the limits like a book. Even though video games and books are the same video games take the user on a path that isn't straight but curved to smaller paths, this which leads to some control. People would prefer the control over a straight path. Even though video games and books might be the same and different people don't view video games as a lesson to others, it teaches the user a certain way of life (crime, fantasy etc...). These value can be used later in the future, and both ways teach through hypnotizing the user for a none set amount of time.

Video Games have a special advantage, since it allows the player to move around more freely, the player must adapt to the rules of the level/obstacle and think through stuff logically. Even though these are just simulations that suck the user in and it is enough to satisfy them into believing that it is possible. As time goes on the different types of technology advance and it allows the types of development to expand and grow to simulate more than one way to think(more than one type of puzzle in one game); this helps people multitask and develop further as humans. Other digital items that can help us evolve or develop further is T.V This helps us with our memories and disembodies us and test our memory to memorize plots, characters and symbols. The user must watch the story move through like a book and capture the messages the "author" wants to portray. This way also bring the viewer more into background of the thing they are showing. The viewer is actually gaining knowledge while they are zones out. Like video games there are different type of shows or genres that will teach the viewer or user and develop them.
->
I think that he is partially right that digitization help develop our brain but now it is nothing but a tool to be used to control the minds of the users. Even though it develops the sense of logic like Steven said, this logic is also contained by the rules set by the creators. Since the users have to follow the set restrictions and cannot "run through every wall there is in a path" it is trying to find out who can follow instructions better. The better you are at a game the better you are at following the rules set by society and the better puppet you will become in the future. Television is not all that Steven says to be, sure it allows the user or viewer to enhance their memory and thinking capability but this is also a place where the knowledge the viewers are absorbing is the "virus" that will infect the mind and corrupt it from the inside. This "virus" will destroy the parts of the mind which is not needed by others and make the viewers think of what is good in life through the T.V. This would take away each persons freedom to think logically but also grant them some logic at the same time. All this new technology might seem bad to some and good to others, but where should the rest stand?
->
Both authors talk about how digitization affect eh minds, if its good or bad; either way our minds will not develop any further than it has already. As Feed talks how all this digital stuff hypnotize us and turn us into monsters, as Bad is Good talks about how digital stuff hypnotize you and helps us develop as humans. Both show how digital stuff hypnotize us and simulates our need to develop further. Either turning into a monster or thinking more logically. Bother sides try and show how we are hooked to this digital age and we need it to continue to function as a whole. The simulation this digital stuff gives is enough to satisfy us. Even though they both contradict each others since one is like a story and a essay, two different things but trying to tell us something non the less.

HomeWork 13: Feed B

Through out the Feed, book it is like a master piece showing how each of our lives are affected digitally. Feed shapes the lives of us humans and which we are affected by what we read. The raw emotions that Feed shows through out the books, and all the different symbolism which is shown. The images of the destruction of everything we once held dear to oneself. The destroyed trees and commercialized nature. Selling one's body to what some call beauty to science or our ideal of science. Through out this book the emotions that are experiences by the different characters are pasted together like a collage of feelings, this puzzle of how we feel today. This world that Feed is portraying is an example of an over worked piece of art. The point of views of the different lives are too much for a humans to do, by taking things to this extreme only put out the worst case scenario that the world can develop into. Even though it shows how digital equipment can destroy ones life if experienced too late which is true, by putting a value on ones life through what they wear from digital relations doesn't change ones point of view. The book is taking one step forward and one step back, by showing no solution or indifference. By only looking at this one opinion shows how simple minded we are as humans or animals and this world has created a world of art but also the destruction of this art at the same time.

Looking at this book hasn't changed my life in any way, i have only received new opinion about the current status of this world and nothing else. No matter what someone else says nothing will change and this world and millions of roads in front of it and one of these possible roads might be the world of FEEDS. This might have changed someone else life by showing how this is all bad, but my only leaning toward one point of view and excluding the other is the error we do as humans. In this world by thinking of what is meaningful for our lives and asking these very questions takes everything that is sacred to something else and makes it very ugly.

HomeWork 12: Feed A

By looking at feed I think that it is not on course to define the current style of today's teenagers. I agree that is shows that not just teenagers but parents are sucked into this whole digital thing too. I feel that the author is adding too much and too little information into this allegory.

Today teens don't have the knowledge that would be considered smart, like not knowing history and other this that are just stupid and makes us more like monsters. In the book it shows a good representation of that, by having people get lesions (which is like plastic surgery, the more you have the better you look), and people not taking the past as serious as they should (like not knowing about the revolutionary war or civil war). The images of a great place is either in a mall, or through the feed, or even dying plants/trees since there aren't many left. Everything i this world is twisted and controlled like how feed shows us.

Even if everything is controlled like that it is not the that extreme. Even though we as humans has been controlled by others by draining our knowledge, we don't know if everything is true, since history is not all that is written in black and white. Even our memories are not completely accurate and that there is more that happened at the time and place then one can read off a text book. People don't always write everything down, so history can never be trusted. In this world plants are going to die one way or another, either by our own hands and ripping them our of the ground and replacing them with machines or by the changing climate or world which we have polluted with our toxic and lies. (recycling->chemical dump in lakes and rivers->killing plants and wild life<-humans don't know this so they are still happy they think they are doing the right thing). The feed isn't have is making us dumber it is the adults who make the stuff and control our lives from birth to death. We as humans never had a choice to choose and these devices only amplify they controlling powers by allowing us to make a fake world of our own: like a second life. Then we as humans teach and control other humans as a endless cycle of pain and sadness: or it could be a endless pain of fake happiness.

In this world the "feed" is not doing this to us but a different source, which we can never get rid of, it is coming from humans, and their need to expand and control.

HomeWork11: Self Experiment

For my experiment i went 24hours with out using any kind of communication devices. (unless emergency)
This included:
Phone (calling/texting)
Computer (no social network or instant messenger or email)
Etc...

I though this was kind of fun and boring, since it allowed me to continue my progress on making animations and allowed me more time to think alone. I didn't really feel any different since this only limits a small part of my life, because my life isn't revolved around it. after the 24 hours was finished i didn't jump straight back into communicating through digital items but i just continued what i was doing since i sort of liked the peace of no one bothering you for a while. I think that cutting a whole part of your life, so suddenly is bad since it takes away some of the things you might need, since i didn't really get any opinion from others when i was doing my animations and it sort of became very quiet with out other voices, since music isn't enough. even though long distance communication has become a detraction's in this world, we as people can live with and with out it, i can't really prove that since i only went without it for 24 hours . people in this world don't want to find out how they would live if they didn't have this stuff so they rather go without it for long term.

HomeWork 10: internet research

origins on the virus
What really is it?
Through out time here has been a common threat to everything in this world and that is called a virus. This has started as a small insignificant thing and has turned into some thing that can destroy the live of a computer. By the creating of man whom has also evolved virus that can destroy and kill human bodies. As computer virus were invented by humans to test their knowledge and to show how out need to destroy stuff in a large scale level like burning a house or blowing up a city for our own enjoyment. These virus take it all on a small scale level and destroy the technology that is suppose to help humans progress further. By testing the nature of one human to do to a large system millions use each day as the Internet or a computer in general is an addiction to some but also others worst fear.

In this world we don't know the true origin of this deadly substance that destroys the things that can take over our lives, it could all be a plot made by the computer company's to make us buy more updated software faster, and to earn the "profit" the desire. In this world all we know is that this is out there and evolving by humans and all we can do it try and stop them when they hit and never at the source.

HomeWork 8: Video responces

Jenise
Hi Jenise, you really tried to think about how your digital representation devices take away the "essence" like Carrie said in her comment to you. i liked how you tried and show the not normal types of digital representation, like your electronic key board and and singing/rapping through a mic. i feel like you are trying to show us how you live your life and what people usually have in their room, since most of it was digital items on the screen and there wasn't really many books, just a lot of empty space at the wall.

I think that when you say "You really lose the essence of playing." i don't think its true, since grand pianos and electric keyboards make different sounds and each of them will not make the same sound as the other. this allow each instrument to match its music with different things and make a whole new verity of music in this world.

You can't loose the essence if you never knew he essence was really there, people just got to open their minds to the possibilities, since in class all we can think now is that these digital things are ruining our lives and but with these things it can help us express each of our passions, like how no one knew you had such a passion for music.

In other words this was a really insightful post and i would love to hear more about it in class.

Carrie
Hi Carrie, pretty good video, it really shows how humans are over a period of time while doing digitization. i like how you skip from one to another, but i never know when you are really doing, since the sound is unreliable.

you video show how digitization has adapted into our human nature and how we as humans cant really live with out it. we do our daily activities while doing these digital representations.

i think you should have showed the screen a little, even though it kind of shows the digital perspective. we as humans cant escape from these digital stuff, even though people made the wii so they wont be sitting there all the time but we are still looking through the screen.

the stuff that we do today, takes away our sense of time, like how you forget your still recording since you are really into your show.

this is really really insightful post and video and we can learn a lot from watching ourselves stray away from this world. i cant wait till your next post.

what would you think of this society with out all this digital equipment:(how would you view it)
L: i think society would be much better, since most people in the united states would be on the computer etc 24/7, it would be better if kids stay on the task of reading and school work.
M:that's a hard questions... i would view it as... well in the past we didn't have them soo, i think that we go back using our old things
S1:It would be... a world with cellphones still, since people need a way to communicate with others, instant everything and texting nows toos.
S2:

do you think this technology has taken away our ability to think as individuals:
L:no not as much cause, because the computers has a lot of things you can learn on, not all just games and such.

Homework4 Comments

*note*- i know this isn't much or very good since i tried not to be very critical to my fellow peers.

Jenise L
This is a very insightful post about how in this world technology is created to help humans do better in life, but now it has become an addiction and has harmed us in many ways. I agree of what you are saying that people of the things we misuse in today's lives. Looking at all these things we abuse, like Internet, cell phones and television i feel that its something i or we can never stop. I have never though of how taking of granted is wrong, like music or Internet. people should be more aware of this situation, like you said "I would say anything digital is addicting...". Seeing people putting their lives into digitization today is very scary, even though people can live without it, it fills up peoples time and entertain them like you said. But i think you should explain more about how people would live with out digitization, you could think about the ideal world in your head. You could also fill the paragraphs with more ideas, since each are about repeating the same thing over and over again, though i liked how you connected the same idea to different things in the real world. I will see you tomorrow and maybe discuss it with the class ans see what they think about these thoughts.
~Vince
Carrie L.
Hey Carrie, i see you wrote a lot on this like you commented on me. I agree with you that technology is the future and most humans cant live without any form of digitization today. the idea of doing more work is not right for humans (like you said.) i think you might need to rethink the second nature thing since technology has spoiled out minds so much it has become a first nature. people can go 1 hour without seeing some form of technology to amuse themselves. people today will check their phones every hour or so or start a new conversation. when one form of digitization has run dry after a short period of time we will mostly jump to another form. You say "It's important that we keep communication a face-to-face affair even with the options of texting and IMing because the more we use them, the more habitual it becomes and as a result we find ourselves isolated from the rest of the world." and that is very true since humans are too lazy to move anywhere that they will just move their hands and fingers to communicate. you say "Our generation is being constantly criticized by our obsession with electronics and our lackadaisical nature to explore the real world around us without such tools." and yes that's very true but i don't think adults should be blaming us for this since they themselves has become sucked into the digital world. I think you should maybe expand on your thoughts since you leave them haft finished, since you only talk about each type of digital technology a little. you could explain more about social networks and connect thing together of why they were started, and explain more of what you think. This is a very good base to think about the digital work i hope to hear more about it.

HomeWork3: Initial thoughts on Digitization

Throughout time man have been advancing on technology trying to free up time to do what we want to do. But by having all this free time has lead to a generation of laziness, to advance forward in technology and to take up out free time we created a digital world, which is where the age of digitization has come. With this 20 year old technology we have discovered new ways which leads our civilization to a deeper and darker abyss. This have taken control of our lives which leads the world to a deeper darker future.

We as animals has let our lives be controlled by this digital world, as we sit down and let a new lazier generation come. This digital world has not only took over our free time but the time we use for daily activities. There is not that much time in a day so we treat out bodies in a negative ways and deprive ourselves of sleep. We have detracted ourselves from the rest of the world, which runs our true ability to communicate with other animals.

This world of zero's and one's has fascinated us to waste many hours of a day with no sense of time which has pasted. A person can spend hours on the computer or watching TV but it would only feel like an hour has passed.

We are so hooked on to the modern technology that we have lost all sense of what use to be important to us and focus on something which only exist with the press of buttons.

Even though this new technology has helped make our lives easier as animals, and has brought us new found joy, we still cant face the fact that the "joy" we receive are for a couple hours and then dissapeers but not the joy we really need as a living being.
